It's all about the method

A lot of parents find it daunting teaching their children with ADHD. If you, the parent, do not have this lovely quirk, then you as a parent have no idea where to even begin. As an adult who has ADHD, I know what it takes for me to retain information. I know what it takes for students to retain information. Here is a perfect example. In our Science class I had to figure out a way to teach 2nd and 3rd graders the power of molecules in state of mater. This was challenging, for days I ran through different ideas, then finally I had it! When your child has ADHD they NEED hands-on-learning, they need to SEE it, touch it, move it. So that's just what I did. I turned every student into a molecule (I taped a molecule to their shirts). I explained that in a solid form molecules are close together. Then I explained in a liquid form molecules are father apart but still close together. Lastly, I explained that in a gas form molecules are everywhere, nowhere close together. After I explained them I made them demonstrate as a group each state of matter and it worked! Students learned and retained information that sometimes can be dull and boring. Try this method of teaching next time, I hope it works for you and your student. Visit our YouTube page to the results.
