the Facts
For seniors, feeling lonely is sometimes inevitable. Mental Health America reports that depression affects about 5% of Americans aged 65 and above. While that may seem like a small number, that percentage accounts for over 2 million seniors. Small things such as spending time with children, who can light up a room, or participating in a fun activity can improve their levels of loneliness and even extend life.
The Institute for Family Studies reported that children who engage in intergenerational programming have more advanced motor and cognitive skills and better regulated emotions than children who do not. By integrating our newest generation with our oldest, we can establish long-lasting and uniquely memorable relationships for not only our children, but for our seniors, too. |
oUR mISSION |
We plan to BRIDGE THE INTERGENERATIONAL GAP! Our program enlists seniors in our community who have the knowledge, skills, and passion to help educate our students. Our mission is to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between the two age groups, allowing them to learn from one another and create a lasting impact on each other's lives. We have a variety of hands-on classes where Seniors can pass down their knowledge and skills to our youth.

Where it started
The CIRCUL KC family holds a deep appreciation for our senior members and treasures the wealth of experience they bring. Our matriarch, the esteemed great-great-grandmother Stella, has dedicated numerous hours to community service, laying the foundation for our commitment to serving others. Stella's altruistic nature was recognized in an article by the Kansas City Star, highlighting her remarkable contributions. It is through Grandma Stella's imparted values and wisdom to her descendants that CIRCUL KC thrives today.
Stella will be 104 in November 2024!
Senior leaders
Meet Bill, our relationship with Mr. Bill started last year, after the passing of his wife. He donated her belongings to our Grandparents Closet.
Mr. Bill, has a huge backyard garden and loves gardening. He offers his garden to our students during the year. He teaches them about flowers, vegetables and about the family of deer that have taken residents in his backyard. He teaches them about tractors, lawnmowers, trees and the list goes on! We have learned so much from Mr. Bill and our students just adore him! This is how we BRIDGE the GAP. This is what makes our program different from the rest.
